An Emmy-winning Actress

UzoAdubabecame interested in acting while attending Boston University on an athletics scholarship. Whilein university she studied classical voice and competed in track and field. She later moved to New York to pursue a career in acting.

Aduba is widely known for her role as Suzanne Crazy Eyes Warren on the Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black. The series has been airing since 2013. For her role in the series, Adubawon an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2014 and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
She also won two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy series. Aduba is one of the only two actors to win both the comedy and drama categories for the same role.

She first drew recognition for her performance in Translations of Xhosa in 2003. For this role, Aduba earned a Helen Hayes Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Play.
In 2008, she portrayed the character AmphiarusatLA Jolly Playhouse. She made her Broadway debut playing Toby in the adaptation of Coram Boy at the Imperial Theater. Adubas first television appearance was playing the role of a nurse on Blue Bloods in 2012. She also portrayed the mother of the title character of Venice.

Aduba is a gifted actress who impressed the casting directors while auditioning for Orange Is the New Black. They saw a connection they were looking for in the role Crazy Eyes. She got her Screen Actors Guild card upon joining the series. She was favorably recognized for her work in the series, winning the Emmy Awards and receiving a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for a Series, Miniseries or Television Film at the Golden Globe Awards.

Adubas performance in Orange Is the New Black earned her another nomination at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.
She has singing ability. From 2011 to 2012, she sang By My Side at the Circle in the Square Theatre. She also staged a performance at the Broadway Cares/EquityFightsAids benefit concert. Afterwards she worked with Rachel Jones for a rendition of the song Lilys Eyes from the musical The Secret Garden.
Aduba has another main role in My Little Pony: The Movie, where she lends her voice.

Outside her career, she is involved in advocacy. She was awarded with the Point Courage Award from the Point Foundation for her support of the LGBT Community.
Throughout her career, Adubas work has been acknowledged in major Award events. This year, she won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
